Time to Act on Climate Change
The Campaign Against Climate Change is asking us all to join them on March 7th 2015 in a mass creative action and march on the streets of London, to tell politicians: So make a note of the date now.
In the run-up to the 2015 election and at the international climate change summit in Paris in December 2015, the Time to Act on Climate Change campaign has a clear message - the urgent need for effective action to tackle climate change. We know what we need to do. We need to move:
¨ From exploitation to climate justice: UK support for a just international climate deal.
¨ From delay to action: 10% emissions cuts year on year, creating at least one million climate jobs.
¨ From fracking & fossil fuels to renewable energy: for all our needs.
¨ From cold homes and energy waste to insulation for all.
If you saw the recent films at Portsmouth’s Green Film Festival you might be interested in this petition to stop the European Parliament letting Monsanto peddle its genetically modified crops all over Europe -- including places where it has been banned.
The petition text is: MEPs: take a stand for bees, birds and democracy, and vote against the proposal to allow GM crops to be grown in Europe." Take action here

Showing our love on 21st September
They are also planning to make a public show of our love in Autumn, ahead of the Climate Leaders' summit in New York. It will be an opportunity to highlight support for our Government to show some much needed ambition on climate. They’ll be teaming up with Avaaz, who are organising a people's march in London to link with a huge march in New York on Sunday 21st September, as well as other cities, on the same day.
The Plan: On Sunday 21st September we'll bring supporters together to show their love on the Thames, with boats representing 5 of the things that supporters have said they love through the medium of massive inflatables! This will of course represent the diversity of the coalition and will include Fairtrade food, wildlife, family and hobbies/ sports. Once the boats have docked the teams with their inflatables will come together with other coalition supporters, and spread some love on the Avaaz march in the afternoon.
There'll be loads of fun ways to get your supporters involved in the lead up and we'll have an event-brite page set up in mid July. http://fortheloveof.org.uk/

Transatlantic Trade Treaty
Take back the power – make trade work for people and planet
Transatlantic trade deals currently being negotiated, threaten to do the exact opposite. Investor dispute mechanisms will allow secret courts to overrule democratically made decisions if they are not considered in the interests of large corporations.
The US and the EU are negotiating a new trade agreement - TTIP - which amounts to the biggest transfer of power to corporations seen in recent years.
The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) aims to liberalise the market between the US and the EU and remove barriers to trade. Its existence was leaked in March this year and exposed by a German newspaper. It's currently at the stage of negotiation 'cycling' between officials in Europe and the States, and has come under fire for being conducted with a complete lack of transparency. The process is due to conclude by 2014/2015.
Our democracy, public services and environment are under threat. If agreed, TTIP would extend the power of big business over our society to unprecedented levels. Shamefully, the UK government are currently a major supporter. But together, we can defeat this agreement.
Day of Action: 12th July 2014
